Hi Carol! Thanks for your question. County Historical Commissions (CHCs) play a huge role as the local channel for Official Texas Historical Markers. Here's a page on our new website that is a resource for CHCs regarding markers: http://www.thc.state.tx.us/preserve/projects-and-programs/state-historical-markers/information-county-historical-commissions. Many CHCs are also involved in cemetery preservation, including identifying historic cemeteries in their county, organizing clean-up and preservation events, as well as forming RIP Guardian groups to be the stewards of historic cemeteries in the area. Here's the main cemetery preservation page on our website: http://www.thc.state.tx.us/preserve/projects-and-programs/cemetery-preservation. A great overall resource for County Historical Commissions is our CHC Outreach Program: http://www.thc.state.tx.us/preserve/projects-and-programs/county-historical-commission-outreach. Lastly, we have featured a number of CHC marker and cemetery preservation projects on this website. If you click on "County Historical Commissions" in the Topics sidebar, you can peruse the various ways CHCs work to preserve their local history. Hope this helps! If not, please don't hesitate to call.

I love the Colorado County Courthouse in Columbus, TX because of the Tiffany-style stained glass dome in the courtroom, upstairs. The dome was covered up by a false ceiling for many years, and was a surprise when renovations were started recently. I grew up in nearby Garwood.

I've had the good fortune of working with Amy for the past decade - she's one of the most dedicated and hard-working people I know. It's especially impressive to know she's doing all this work (and more) after losing an assistant staff member due to the recent budget cuts. Thanks for putting her in the spotlight with this article. She deserves to be featured (and thanked)!

The Young Family Cemetery Association has been the recipient of grants from the Collin County Historical Commission over several years. The Young Cemetery, begun in 1847, has benefited from this grant program with fencing, tree removal and pruning, Scatter Garden improvements and a restoration of grave markers. Leveling and repairs have improved the long term prospects of the monuments to pioneers in Collin County. This year's grant will enable two historical publications to be revised improved and reprinted for new generations to read and enjoy.
