Houston Historic Districts Homefinder is a unique web tool that makes it easy for people to search what properties are for sale in the city’s 19 historic districts. This site is a collaboration between Houston Association of Realtors and the City of Houston and is the first Multiple Listing Service (MLS) of its kind in the nation! With an introduction by Houston Mayor Annise Parker where she underscores the importance of Houston’s heritage and invites home buyers to invest in historic places, this tool also links people to relevant information including the city’s Historic Preservation Ordinance and tax incentives.
The homepage gives you a map overview of where all the historic districts are located throughout the city, as well as a link to each specific district. Each district has its own page with map, brief history and description, and all properties for sale. Clicking on a specific property takes you to its detail page on the MLS where you can view pictures, virtual tours and specifics on the property. All the maps are in Google maps format.
This tool is a fantastic resource for promoting the historic neighborhoods and historic properties for sale in the city, as well as growing the awareness of Houston’s heritage and architecture. For those of us who aren’t in the market for a house in Houston, it’s a fun way to get to know the city’s historic districts and neighborhoods! It also demonstrates a strong collaboration between historic preservation and the real estate community in Houston, contributing to Statewide Plan Goal 6 (Connect Preservation to Related Fields), specifically the outcome of developing resources for the real estate community
