Happy Preservation Month everyone!
This year’s theme is “Discover America’s Hidden Gems.” Communities across Texas and the nation are celebrating this month with events, celebrations, tours, lectures and projects to bring attention to their little (and big) known gems of historic places.
The Texas Historical Commission is celebrating by offering you these great opportunities:
- Visit any of our historic sites for FREE on May 19. Many sites completed major restoration projects over the past year and recently reopened to the public. In addition, join us for special celebration in El Paso on Saturday, May 12 for the reopening of the Magoffin Home State Historic Site.
- Join us this month for one of our five regional workshops. We have developed a series of capacity-building workshops to support individuals and organizations that share our mission to enrich lives through history. The series is taking place in communities across the state and will explore current approaches to educating and influencing Texans about our great historical resources. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to learn, network and partner in your backyard – there is still time to register!
Check out Preservation Texas’ calendar of events across the state and make plans to attend an event in or near your community. Don’t forget to email Preservation Texas if you have an event happening in your community!
