I am a local Realtor in Houston, Texas. As a real estate professional I strive to educate myself and others about the rich history our historic neighborhoods have to offer. My family is native to Texas and we take pride in this great state. Personally I believe caring for a historic property takes dedication, because it is easier to demolish an older home, but easier is not always better. The history and examples of amazing works of living art lost to demolition rob all of us of small pieces of history, until whatever area is experiencing tear down mania ends up stripped of all the character the former residents brought to the neighborhood. In recent years I have witnessed progress turn bungalow neighborhoods in to over built congested town-home dotted wastelands and the overwhelming use of the same generic retail boxes make shopping less than enjoyable. The joy of living with an architect's vision from another time brings us all joy and their buildings inspire us to dream....I believe we owe to future generations to save that dream along with the historic record.
Statewide Preservation Plan Connection
As a Realtor I actively match buyers with desires to preserve significant homes with historic properties. Currently my family is working to restore the Bevil Home in Kountze, Texas. The Bevil Family can be traced back to original Texas settlements in East Texas and the home is well documented by the local library which has a meeting room named for the family. It is our goal to submit the home to The Texas Historic Commission this coming year.
